|  | Planning Commission Members   | MELANI SMITH, CHAIR Planning Commissioner Melani Smith has lived in Long Beach for over 18 years, and is currently a Principal at Melendrez Landscape, Architecture & Urban Design Firm. Ms. Smith has a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, and is active in the community, including as a volunteer at For the Child, and a Member of the El Dorado Audubon, Los Alamitos Foundation and El Dorado Nature Center Friend. CHARLES DURNIN, VICE CHAIR Planning Commissioner Charles Durnin has lived in Long Beach over 60 years and is currently retired. Mr. Durnin has been a physician, Community Hospital Chief of Staff, Medical Director of Tichenor Orthopedic Clinic for Children, and member of Memorial Hospital Foundation. He is also active in the community, participating in the Rotary Club of Long Beach, and received a Long Beach Police Award for Heroism. | | |  | BECKY BLAIR Planning Commissioner Becky Blair has been a Long Beach resident for 20 years, and a real estate professional in the city for 25 years. Ms. Blair is active throughout the city, including as a Board Member for the Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Long Beach Associates, and the Long Beach Symphony. |  | PHILIP SAUMUR Planning Commissioner Philip Saumur has been a resident of Long Beach for over 40 years and is a graduate of Cal State Long Beach. He also has building design training from UCLA and a certificate in Facilities Design & Management from UCI. Mr. Saumur was a space planner and project manager for bank buildings at Security Pacific Bank and later at CB Richard Ellis. He has also been a realtor, a property manager for several shopping centers and office buildings as well as managing the facilities planning group at McDonnell Douglas. Mr. Saumur is currently involved with redevelopment in North Long Beach as a member of the North PAC. |  | DONITA VAN HORIK Planning Commissioner Donita Van Horik has worked in the Information Technology field for more than 20 years, and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona. |  | LESLIE GENTILE Planning Commissioner Leslie Gentile is an architect with Fernald Design Group, based in Long Beach. She has worked on numerous projects throughout the City, and has a strong background and knowledge of planning and urban design issues. |  | ALAN FOX Alan Fox has been a resident of the City of Long Beach for more than 23 years, and is very active in the City’s business and legal communities. Mr. Fox has served on the City’s Airport Advisory Commission for more than 5 years, serves as Chair of the Memorial Medical Center Foundation, and is active with Leadership Long Beach. Mr. Fox has worked as a lawyer for more than 40 years, earning his degrees from Stanford University and UC Berkeley’s Boalt School of Law. | |
