Long Beach Development Services is pleased to announce the release of the draft version of the new wireless telecommunications facilities (cell sites) ordinance for public and industry review. Members of the public and the wireless industry are encouraged to submit comments on the draft ordinance. To view the draft ordinance, click here.
The proposed amendments to the Zoning Regulations would be a complete update to the City's rules on wireless telecommunications facilities (cell sites). The new rules would encourage placement of these facilities away from residential areas, require regular reports on each site's compliance with FCC rules on radio emissions, and institute a requirement for a master Conditional Use Permit (CUP) and 10-year build-out plan for each site. Also, the new regulations would give the City added design review powers over the appearance and aesthetics of cell sites, while setting clear rules and expectations to create less uncertainty for City residents and the wireless industry.
