Safe Long Beach Resource Guide

Overview

The Safe Schools Workgroup is responsible for the implementation of the Safe Schools Coordination Plan under Safe Long Beach. This Workgroup is guided by research that suggests that low educational attainment (i.e. graduation from high school, truancy, early literacy) leads to negative outcomes later in life, including delinquency and victimization. Specifically, the goals and objectives of this Workgroup are as follows:
  • Goal 1: Increase the high school graduation rate
    • Objective 1: Increase student performance in English/Language Arts annually
    • Objective 2: Increase school attendance and decrease chronic absenteeism
    • Objective 3: Increase parent education and parent participation in schools
    • Objective 4: Implement the full service community school approach at five schools
  • Goal 2: Increase safety in and around schools
    • Objective 1: Increase community perception of safety around schools
    • Objective 2: Decrease bullying in and around schools

Currently, the Safe Schools Workgroup supports the implementation of two primary citywide initatives; the LBUSD "All In" attendance campaign and the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.
