ESSER HOUSE
1001 E. 1st St. (1929)

This duplex was built by William Esser, a successful Long Beach builder whose work included the now-demolished but famous Pacific Coast Club. A fine example of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, it was completed just prior to the Depression. The architecture evokes the romance of the Mediterranean and of Spanish California during the housing boom of the prosperous 1920's.
