CHENEY-DELANEY RESIDENCE
2642 Chestnut Ave. (1937)

A fine example of Streamline Moderne architecture, unusual in a single-family house. Its sleek surfaces, horizontal lines, curving corners and porthole windows recall the era's great machines of transportation: ocean liners, airplanes, railroads. Imagery of dynamic movement and modernism reflected an optimistic faith in progress for a country emerging from the Great Depression.
